Alhamdulillah, it has been a tremendous joy to complete Ramadhan and now we are celebrating Syawal. Syawal is celebrated for successfully completed Ramadhan with fasting and others religious obligations for the Ramadhan month. Muslim all over the world celebrated the 1st of Syawal (a month in the muslim calendar) with a special prayer in the morning. It will be followed by a big feast for those who can afford. Known as Eid to the Arab continents and Hari Raya Aidilfitri or Lebaran to the Asian.

I had tried all of the above restaurants/caterers. Rumah Makan Minang has the best rendang. It is best that you contact them and see if their price suit to your budget. Each restaurant had their specialties that will in any other way meet your requirement or standard.

It has been a week that Muslim around the world doing their duties of one of the 5 pillars of Islam and that is Fasting during the muslim calendar of Ramadhan. In the Arab region or Europe where there are a lot of Muslim residing, feasting during the iftar is not just an ordinary scene. But their feasting only started after the Terawih Prayers.

Its a heap for young adults to break their fast here. J's Wok & Grill - This new set up of halal restaurant is owned by Jamiyah (Islamic Society) in Singapore. The restaurant provide quite a vast cuisines from Asian to Mediteranean. For Ramadhan, they serves buffet up to 9pm. There after only ala carte being serve. For a change once in a while, why not iftar at J's Wok & Grill. With the Mid Autum Festival being celebrated, Singapore is stormed by mooncakes. Hotels promoting their mooncakes with nice packaging had been competiting with each others to win customers. Bakeries islandwide practically promoting their mooncakes with new innovation of filling and flavors.

Halal mooncake has not been thought of before then. This is because, previously it was prepared using lard for the skin. With some thought of our Muslim friends, some brainy guys modified their ingredients with halal product and introduce it to the widely Halal market. A Chinese friend who had tasted the Halal Mooncake testify that it taste the same, infact he commented that its much more healthier by not using Lard.

Halal Food Court - Banquet

In this posting, I would like to share about a halal food joint in Singapore. It has been here since August 1999. Its is more like a food court joint. Let me introduce BANQUET. Banquet is special to us Muslim cause it mainly have all Halal food being serve. Singapore Malay Muslim have a palate for Chinese Food. Banquet had tackle the niche in getting the Chinese food prepared in a Halal way to get the pie of the food business. Indeed they had been successful. This can be measured thru their addition of branches and the franchises emerged almost everywhere.

Banquet speciality not only in providing Chinese Halal Food, they do serve western and all malay cuisine in their premises. This help if any family who came together to dine at Banquet will not have a problem in case the extended family does not know how to eat chinese food eventhough its being prepared according to Muslim rite and certified Halal by the Islamic authority in Singapore.

Personally, I had patronised some branches of Banquet. My all time favourite is a Bee Hoon Fried Fish Soup at Banquet's Raffles Hospital Branch. You can try this dish at some other branch too. For more information on the branches and the operating hours, get it here.

No Pork No Lard Doesn't mean Its Halal

Halal food products are derives from halal sources. Some restaurant can claim that they serve no Pork or No Lard. But if their premises do sell alcohol, then they cannot get a Halal certification. The terms no pork or no lard doesnt serve as halal. Perhaps the restaurant do not use the forbidden meat but the ingredient that they use can derive from non halal sources.

To non muslim, as long as the food that contain no pork or lard is consider Halal to be consumed. This is not true as the sources to cook the food such as sauces or additional ingredients can be of haram origin. Plus if its contain meat such as chicken or beef, that its need to be slaughter according to Islamic rites. Its is wise for those restaurant not to catergories their food as Halal due to the No Pork No Lard standard. Please be aware that such claimed can be offended to some Muslim.

There are a lot of eating places in Singapore that claimed to be Halal due to No Pork and No Lard policy. If you are a Muslim visiting Singapore, please take note that this is not a sign that the food is Halal to be consumed. It is best to look out for the Halal Certificate that eateries display at their premises. Please take note that the certificate do have an expiry date on it. If they just indicate that their restaurant is Halal and no Halal certificate is being displayed, do ask them for it. If they really do have, then they will gladly show them to you. If otherwise, then you should use your judgement as a Muslim whether to consume the food at that particular restaurant or eating place. May Allah give you guidance and blessing. Amin.

Halal Logo is very important for restaurants, caterers, food manufacturers, eating establishments, cafes, etc. This halal logo will help their consumers know that they provide a halal product to be consumed by Muslim. Every different countries have their own halal logo. Most of it bears the organisation authrosied with Halal emblem of that particular countries inscripted in the LOGO. Here are some samples:

The halal markets had increased tremendously around the world. With internet and global travel, embarking in the halal industries had help some business to boost their profit. With it, the rate of unemployment do drop in some countries due to expension in business.

For a start, lets take Singapore as a guide. The number of Halal eating establishment had increased every year. The government body incharge for this halal certification Majlish Ugama Islam Singapura or MUIS had to recruit more employee in order to meet the demand for application of the certification of Halal.

The list of restaurants, cafes, caterers or eating establishment providing Halal food had seen increased in their profit. If previously, when they are not certified halal, they can only cater for non Muslim. With some minor adjustment on changes and a little bit more of investment for the halal certification, their move to do it is a worthwhile effort.

If you are in Singapore, rest assured that all fastfood joints like McDonalds, KFC, Long John Silver, Burger Kings and Pizza Hut are certified halal. You can see that the Halal certificate issued by Muis is prominently display at their eating premises. Recently, Coffee Beans and Tea Leaf had attained the Halal status. This make them the only designer coffee joints in Singapore which is certified Halal.

Halal is an arabic word for permits or allowable. The opposite is haram which translated to forbidden or disallowed. All Muslim can consume food derived from halal sources or the base product is of halal origin. Animals meat which is Halal to be eaten will be slaughter according to Islamic right.
